Doesnt happen very often... and rarely so close to the finish (1k to go) but thefinish was nuetralized! We rode 89 miles close to 30mph, and there was a big ol' pileup in the cat 3's on the finish line, so as we crested the finishing hill they stopped us dead - no change in GC, no stage results, fully nullified. The unlucky guy who went down lost a lot of blood and looked like he messed up his face pretty good (type of road surface that acts like a cheese-grater) but he was pretty much ok.
Jaime kept Jon and I out of the wind well all day and at the front - which was no easy task, there are a lot of strong guys on a narrow road fighting like crazy to be at the front for the climbs and the crosswind sections, we didnt follow any of the moves, as it is not a course where they can roll too well, and into the sprint I had Jon on my wheel and was in the top ten starting the climb. I was drifting back a little when they nullified it, with Jon still pretty close to the business end of things, so I expect a top15-20 at least for him and likely 20-30s for me. I was feeling super smooth over the hill and was fairly fresh at the finish so happy with the form. We covered the 90 miles so fast - just over 3 hours, that we rode back to Jons house to get the ride time up to 5hrs15mins at 125 miles, sweet day of training!
Criterium this afternoon- we'll go for it here and see how the legs respond. There are plenty of strong guys, but dont seem to be that many fast guys or really explosive riders, which could play into our hand.
Kenda Kup - no points awarded, still on the top spot baby!
