the boat times

Not a ton going on here in Wisconsin... spending a nice relaxing holiday decompressing. The weather has improved drastically, from -30 to 30, even reaching 50 a few times, but dumping rain. This has kept me from riding outdoors now for something like 3 weeks, probably one of those blessings in disguise.
I'm leaning to cross country ski a little more proficiently, though I still fall now and then. Here I am with the Hildebrands and Dano enjoying the fresh powder.

The beach is near the ski trails and is absolutely roaring right now. The photo doesnt really do it justice, but you could probably surf out there... if you were out of your mind. (there is a group of hard cores who do surf lake Michigan in the summer I've been told.)

We also went for a hike in the Kettle Morraine forest. Here I am atop the fire tower where you can see miles and miles, it was very beautiful with the snow still covering most of the land. I was challenged to a race to the top of the 6 flights of icy wooden stairs during the hike, which was the hardest I have gone since september. It was so hard! You get so specialized in one type of movement that when you ask your body to go full-out in a way it is unaccustomed, man is it brutal.
I've actually started reading again, for enjoyment, not for classes... which is just a great change of pace. I just finished A Dog in a Hat, which I recomend highly. It is a retelling of one of the first Americans journey into the Belgium kermesse scene in all its glory, brought me back to 04' bigtime, made me even want to head over that way again sometime! Who knows what the future brings, but that would be a lot of fun to go back now that I know what the hell I am doing.
6 days until Tucson... weather.com reports a high of 71, and you guessed it, lots of sun.
